GIRLS IN CAMP
GATHERING AT SOLWAY. FULL ROUND OF ACTIVITIES. Brilliantly fine weather is being experienced by the Wellington Y.W.C.A. girls who are in camp at the Solway Showgrofmds. Twenty-six business girls are at the camp, which is being run under the capable supervision of the camp hostess, Miss. Helen Macdonald. a sports mistress from Canada. Miss McDonald has had wide experience in running holiday camps for the Y.W.C.A. in Canada, and her knowledge of camp organisation is making the lot of the girls in camp a particularly pleasant one. The party arrived from Wellington several days ago and were welcomed by Mr W. A. Clarke, president of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. Gaiety and happiness characterised the camp when it was visited this morning, the principals all sharing the camp tasks cheerfully. New Year's Eve was celebrated in traditional fashion, the girls having a gay, happy time. Camp fire stunts, moonlight swimming and tramping, cricket, badminton, baseball, tennis and ping-pong have made the camp one which will be remembered for a long time by the girls attending the holiday camp. A visit was paid yesterday to the Masterton Dairy Company's factory at Akura. where the intricacies of making butter greatly interested the visitors. The Waingawa Freezing Works will be inspected tomorrow and the girls will break camp on Saturday. Forty younger girls will then go into camp. Visitors to the camp during the week included Archdeacon and Mrs E. J. Rich, Mrs Max Cleghorn, M.A.. the Misses Douglas, and the Rev Taeapa.
