The Rev J. A. G. Day, who has been a -voluntary deacon in Ngaruawahia, will leave’ New Zealand shortly for missionary work in Polynesia. Dr I. V. Newman, lecturer in botany at Victoria University College, Wellington. has returned to New Zealand after a visit to Sydney. The Rev R. D. Lord, who is a member of the Church of England's Society for the Propagation of the Gospel.' and who has been 22 years in China, has returned to Auckland.

The Mayor of Petone, Mr George London, a son of a Petone pioneer and former mayor, has enlisted for service in the Special Force. Mr London is a bachelor and Now Zealand’s youngest mayor.

Mi- G. March retired on Saturday from the position of town clerk of Wanganui, after 38 years’ service. He is succeeded by Mr C. R. White, who first joined the service of the Wanganui City Council in 1913. Mr E. F. Eagar, M.A., senior departmental head of the Wellington Technical College, has resigned. Mr Eagar was appointed English master at the college in 1915, .resigned a year and a half later, but in 1923 was appointed head of the English department, and later was promoted to the position from which he has resigned. The death occurred on Sunday at the age of 48 years, of Mr Frederick Janies Ramsay, secretary-treasurer of the Horowhenua Power Board. The late Mr Ramsay was born at Arrowtown. Central Otago, and was educated at the Gore District High School. He joined the staff of the Gore Borough Council in 1907. remaining there until he was appointed town clerk of Balclutha in 1912. Except for three years when he saw active service in the Great War with the first New Zealand Expeditionary Force, the deceased occupied this position up to 1921, then removing to Levin as town clerk. It was in 1930 that he was appointed sec-retary-treasurer to the Horowhenua Electric Power Board. After two years as chief inspector for Australia and New Zealand of the Union Bank of Australia, Limited, Mr A. E. B. Goode will become general manager at Melbourne of the establishment in Australia and New Zealand in succession to Mr A. W. McNicol. Mr Goode, who was born in Ballarat, joined the Union Bank in 1900, and is believed to be the only general manager of the bank who joined it as a junior and worked his way up to the highest administrative post in the organisation. Mr McNicol is retiring after three years and a-half as general manager. He joined the bank in 1896. Mr C. T. Peck, present inspector for Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, has been appointed chief .inspector.
