MEETING OF WAIRARAPA SOCIETY. CHILLED BEEF CLASSES AT SHOW. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society was held in Carterton today. Mr J. McLeod, a vice-president, presided over a fair attendance. Sympathy with the relatives of the late Messrs C. E. Daniell, C. Matthews and O. Bubb was expressed, those present standing as a mark of respect. Accounts passed amounted to £62 13s 3d. It was decided to include chilled beef classes in the show schedule. The New Zealand Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Association advised that it had decided to donate the sum of £2 2s, as special prize-money for the Hereford section. The Southdown Sheep Society of New Zealand wrote stating that the society had decided to donate a medal for the best two-tooth ram in natural condition for the Southdown section. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks to both bodies.
“I am directed to ask that the rent to the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union for the use of the Showgrounds for the 1939 season bo the same as charged for the 1938 season," stated a letter from the secretary. Mr E. McKenzie. “We regret having to make this request. but reduced income makes it necessary do so and from present indications it will not be possible to pay more than in 1938." “There seems to be a slump on in Wairarapa Rugby at present and we should do our utmost to foster the game," said Mr J. McLeod. It was decided to grant the Union’s request. One new member was elected.
