BOXING ABROAD
TWENTY'ROUND WORLD TITLE BOUT. PASTOR TO FIGHT LOUIS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, July 13. It is announced that Bob Pastor and Joe Louis will fight a 20-round bout for the world heavyweight boxing championship in Detroit on September 21. The champion will get--40 per cent of the gate and the contender 171 per cent. It will be the first 20-round championship bout since Willard and Dempsey met. The decision to make the fixture grew out of the fact that Pastor stayed 10 rounds with Louis in 1937.
CONN BEATS BETTINA. LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE. NEW YORK, July 13. Bill Conn, Pittsburg, won the world light-heavyweight boxing championship with a points decision over Melio Bettina, New York, in a 15-round bout. It was a closely-fought contest, in which the winner came from behind. Bettina seemed far superior in the first four rounds, after which the challenger made Bettina’s face a target for left jabs. Each fighter staggered the other with hard blows. The referee and judges 'unanimously picked Conn.
