COLLEGE HOCKEY
DOUBLE VICTORY FOR WAIRARAPA. EXCELLENT DISPLAYS. On a somewhat heavy ground, but with the weather perfect yesterday afternoon the Wairarapa College and Dannevirke Higii School girls’ teams met in their annual hockey match. Sparkling hockey thrilled the large crowd of spectators who were continually on their toes with excitement. The stick-work of the Dannevirke team was of a high standard and they combined well. The Wairarapa College team, running in second place in the Wairarapa senior competition, was a trifle disappointing, and although winning by 2 goals to 1, the score was no indication of the run of play. In the second spell Dannevirke lost many opportunities to score after being 1 goal up in the first spell. The positional play of both teams was excellent. Brilliant forward rushes made the game very fast, particularly towards the end, when Dannevirke pressed hard in a vain attempt to equalise the scores. For Wairarapa E. Hanley and J. Childs scored, and P. Donaldson did likewise for Dannevirke. N. Wrigley, J. Aickman and J. Childs were outstanding in the Wairarapa team, and for Dannevirke H. Zady, N. Patterson, and P. Donaldson turned on excellent hockey. Messrs Ross and Moore were capable referees. JUNIOR GAME. The junior match was an excellent display of hockey, Wairarapa again being successful, defeating Dannevirke 2 goals to 1. N. Richards and R. Hanley scored splendid goals for Wairarapa and S. Mackie netted for Dannevirke. In the evening the Dannevirke players were hospitably entertained at a social and dance in the Wairarapa College Assembly Hall.
