CROQUET CLUB FAREWELL GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very pleasant time was spent at the residence of Mrs K. Donald, Donald Street, when she invited the playing members of the Haunui Croquet Club to be present to farewell Mrs Brophy on the eve of her departure for Masterton. The evening was spent in competitions and music, the former being won by Mesdames Perry and Barker. During the evening Mrs Wakely, on behalf of the Wairarapa Croquet Association, presented Mrs Brophy with a beautiful floating bowl in recognition of her services as secretary of the association. Miss E. Card, president of the Haunui Club, on behalf of the members, extended the very best of wishes of members to Mr and Mrs Brophy in their new venture. To show her appreciation of the many little kindnesses she had received from Mrs Brophy, Mrs Donald presented her with a hand-knitted jumper and in doing so wished both Mr and Mrs Brophy every success and happiness in their new home. Mrs Brophy, in responding, said what a surprise packet it had been to her. She thanked the croquet members for their good wishes and regretted having to leave the club. As for Mrs Donald, anything the speaker had done for her had been a pleasure. Miss E. Card thanked Mrs Donald for the happy time they had spent at her home and the gathering concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. FIRE BRIGADE MEETING OF MEMBERS. Supt. Tidswell presided over a full attendance at the usual meeting of members of the Featherston Fire Brigade. The financial statement as submitted was adopted and accounts amounting to £2 Is 8d were passed for payment. An invitation was received from the Martinborough Brigade for members to attend the annual reunion to be held shortly. It was decided to offei’ the old fire reel to the Egmont Box Factory for the sum of £5. During the month the old fire engine was disposed of, it having been replaced by a more modern machine. Arrangements for the annual ball were discussed, and the secretary was instructed to make inquiries as to hall and orchestra, so that a date can be fixed. Fireman Walker was granted three weeks’ leave of absence, Supt. Tidswell presented Secretary R. Sadler with a two years’ service bar, making a total of 9 years in all. In making the presentation the Superintendent referred to the excellent service that Mr Sadler had rendered to the brigade, and made particular reference to the way in which he had carried out his duties as secretary. Other members endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker after which Mr Sadler suitably replied.
