PREPARED TO STAY OUT
STRIKERS AT FERTILISER WORKS. STATEMENT BY SECRETARY OF UNION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 4. If the employers refuse to negotiate, the 400 strikers at the three chemical works are prepared to strike indefinite - ly, according to a statement made today by the secretary of the Otahuhu Chemical Manure Workers’ Union, Mr W. Miller, after a meeting of the executive.
The statement added that the offer made by the -workers on June 27 to negotiate for a settlement still stands, but so far no suggestion has been made by the other side save that they are prepared to accept the offer.
Mr Miller said the men were anxious to settle the dispute, as they have no wish to inconvenience farmers or other users of fertilisers. They invite any impartial investigation of the conditions under which they work, feeling that the complaint that they are intolerable can be substantiated. The employers met informally yesterday. but they have no statement to make.
