GREYTOWN WANDERERS v. CARTERTON RIVALS. This match came off between the above teams last Saturday on the Reserve, Greytown, and resulted in a tie, neither side scoring. The day was very wet, and the ground slippery. Mr Nix for Carterton, and Mr A. Grieg for Greytown, were the umpires, while Mr Maguire was referee. Very soon after the kick off, W Tully, the Greytown full back, made a splendid run, but was collared near the Carterton twentyfive by Parker. From a kick by one of the Carterton players, E Udy secured the ball, and made a good run, but was collared by Usher close to the Carterton twentyfive flag. By some geooJ play by the Greytown forwards the ball was in close proximity to the Carterton goal line, but C Udy spoiled a good chance of scoring by kicking the ball too hard, and a force down resulted. The Carterton men rallied, and with a splendid rush carried the ball up to the Greytown goal line, and when time was called the ball was only a few feet of the covoted line.
In the beginning of the second spell the Carterton team were playing better together, nnd spoiled a good chance of a score by kicking the ball too hard, and Greytown were forced down. By some good play by Baumber and Usher, the Greytown team were forced down again. Again the Carterton team got the ball within a few yards of the goal line, but bv some good passing by J Beard, E Udy. ami W Tully, the ball was taken to the Carterton twenty fire. From a throw out one of the Greytown forwards kicked the ball over the line, and | Carterton were forced down. Both the Greytown and the Carterton forwards played with determination, the most noticeable being Read (captain), McCarthy, Moore, and Nicholson (2) for Carterton, and C Udy, Connolly, R Grigg, J Ryan, and J Beard for Greytown. Baumber played as he always does, his kicking and collaring being really first class; Ussher, Parker, Dempsey, and J Bennett (full back) played well behind the scrim, for Carterton. A Udy and A Beard, quarter backs, played very fair, but did not seem in proper form, K Udy (captain), half back, ran and tackled in good style, so did S and W Tully, I especially the latter, Goldsmith was I very good as full back, for Greytown
