Volunteering.
GKEYTOWN RIFLE VOLUNTEERS. The first tournament between the B and D squads of the Oreytown Volunteers took place at Papawai en Saturday last. Doubt* less owing to a cricket match and other reasons the full compliment of the men in each squad were not present. The shooting, which with one or two exceptions was not good, was as follows :—B Squad—Vol F Tooksr 47, Sergt Gooding 32, Vol Gooding 82, Vol Harris 22, Corp Moors 4, total 137. D Squad—Sergt Humphries 48, Vol Hawke 36, Vol Phillips 16, Corp Hawke 16, Vol Boydboose 10, total, 126. The B squad that proved winners. 0 and A Squads will compete on Saturday next. A Squad—Sergt Trotman, Corp Maguire, Vol D. Baillie, Blake, W. S. Collier, A. Campbell, Dockery, Dooley, Hall, mo., T. Fisher. C Squad—Sergt Thompson, Corp Collier, G. Smith, Rowe, Sayer, Benge, Hebley, Braggins, Cameron, Nelson. The Match Committee of the Oreytown Rifle Volunteers will meet on Tuesday night after drill to arrange lor the match against the Wellington Guards.
FEATHERSTON RIFLE VOLUNTEERS. The Featherston Rifle Volunteer* are now vigorously proceeding with their elan firing and with satisfactory results in soma eases. This corps have been challenged by other rifle companies to several matches the obming season and we should hint that sou.* strong teams will be required to cope with the Featherston marksmen as they unqueslion ably possess some riflmen of more than the average merit. .
