Mr Gray in Reply.
To the Editor of the Slumlord. Sin, —Kindly permit mo to reply to Mr Wilkie’s letter of Kith instant, re Conn case in which 1 figure as defendant. Mr Wilkia well knows that I showed him the receipts 1 held, and tried to arrange the matter quietly, but he refused to recognise the receipts ; hence concerning his statement about coming to terms, how was it possible for me to do so when he positively refused to recognise his own handwriting, Mr W. says, in the matter of the second receipt, his memory must have been defective. In this I quite agree with him, but it pays to have a bad memory at times, especially if each side of one’s balance sheet does not agree—it mnst be made up somehow. Mr W. reminds me for. oibly of the little story of the Jew and bis sou, Abraham, to whom the elder Jew said, “ Apram, ven yon oo onto to vorld make te money honestly ; if you cannot to so, sbteal it, put shteal it honestly." I am, die., H. L. Gkiy.
