Mr G. E. Lawrence, for the past eight years of the staff of the Otorolianga railway station, has received notice of his transfer to Wanganui.

Mr M. H. Deane is at present relieving Mr Kerr (who is on his annual leave) at the Otorohanga and Te Kuiti Courthouses —acting as deputy Clerk.

Professor W. Riddet, director of the New Zealand Dairy Research Institute at Massey College, sails on February 4 for America and England to spend a year abroad under the travelling grant awarded him by the Carnegie Corporation.

Mr R. B. Ross, who until recently was farm inspector for the Public Trust Office and has now retired, is on a visit to the King Country.

Many .Te Awamutu friends and acquaintances will regret to hear of the death on Tuesday last of Mr William J. Hayes, which occurred suddenly as he was engaged in milking a herd of cows on a farm some miles from Pokeno. Mr Hayes, who was 53 years of age, had complained lately of indifferent health, but his demise was quite unexpected. While in Te Awamutu he was employed at a local butchery, and was highly esteemed. To the sorrowing widow and family will be accorded sincere sympathy.

After nearly ten years at Waikeria Borstal Institute as chief warder, Mr A. St. P. Jordan leaves next week for his new appointment at Paparua Prison, near Christchurch. He will be succeeded at Waikeria by Mr A. A. Douglas, who has been principal warder at Mount Eden Prison for the past nine years. Mr Jordan, in addition to being a very capable and conscientious officer, has a legion of friends in this district, and he and Mrs Jordan will take with them very good .wishes for their future success.

According to a Gazette notice last night, the following have been reappointed members of the Advisory Council of Scientific and Industrial Research:—Professor H. G. Denham (chairman), Mr A. H. Cockayne, Mr G. A. Duncan, Professor J. Malcolm, Mr G. A. Pascoe, Professor W. Riddet, Mir T. Rigg, Mr A. M. Seaman and Mr H. Vickerman.
