A SPLENDID HIGHWAY

113 MILE STRETCH OF BITUMEN IN CANTERBURY. Canterbury sees 113 miles of its main highway in a single stretch from Hinds to the Onihi Saddle. This is about, the longest stretch of paved highway in the country. It has taken ten years to complete and the total cost is approximately £378,000. Transport users over this section of the road are very pleased and proud of it. Its average width is 20 feet, with six feet each side of gravel, and it makes a fine highway. Hundreds of pounds annually will be saved to the users by the completion of this section.
