TRAFFIC BREACHES
CREAM CARRIERS FINED. At the Cambridge S.M; Court on Wednesday Traffic Inspector R. Metcalfe proceeded against Kenneth Alfred Ripe for operating a heavy traffic lorry licensed in Class D at a speed exceeding 25 m.p.h. on the CambridgeRotcrua. main highway on November 9. The inspector stated that he paced the vehicle for a mile and found the speed to be 38 m.p.h. Pipe was fined £2 and costs 10s. The Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company was proceeded against for operating two heavy motor lorries in Victoria Street, Cambridge, with overloads. Traffic Inspector Metcalfe gave evidence that the' lorries were ladened with cream, one with 5 ton 14 cwt, and the other 5 ton 6 cwt." The maximum load was 4i tons. A fine of £2 With costs 10s was imposed in each charge. Goodson’s, ' Limited, of Rotorua, were charged with carrying on a goods service not in conformity with the terms of the license granted. Inspector Metcalfe stated that on October 28 he noticed Goodson’s lorry passing through Cambridge with a load of horses. He found that the company had no special license to carry live stock. A representative of the defendant firm said they were engaged late on the Saturday evening prior to the Labour Day races to carry two racehorses to Cambridge and left early on Monday morning. The firm had no opportunity of securing the special permit to carry the stock. The charge was dismissed.
