HAMILTON STOCK SALE

The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company reports:—

Sheep:' At Frankton sale on Tuesday a heavy yarding of all classes of sheep was received. Competition for fat wethers was keen, showing no alteration on last week’s quotations. A good entry of fat ewes did not attract such keen competition, and were about Is 6d per head easier; A medium entry of lambs met with a good sale at fully equal to schedule, rates.

Cattle :A good entry of vealers sold at equal to last week’s values. Ox beef was penned in smaller numbers, and competition was keen, with an all-round rise in values. . Cow and heifer beef came forward in average numbers, with prime lots scarce. For these competition was also keen, and higher values were realised. Secondquality beef sold at late rates. Store and boner cows were yarded in heavy numbers, and last week’s quotations were maintained easily. Pigs: An extra heavy yarding of fat pigs and a medium entry of stores and weaners were penned. The demand for baconers and light porkers was firmer than last week, showing a slight improvement in values. There was a good demand for stores and weaners, and here again last week s prices were exceeded.

We quote: —■ Sheep: Heavy prime wethers 26s to 275, medium 24s to 24s Gd, light and unfinished 22s to 235, heavy fat ewes 16s to 17s 9d, medium 14s 6d to 16s lambs 23s 6d to 25s 6d, medium fat lambs 20s to 21s 9d. Cattle: Medium prime heifers £7 16s to £8 6s, medium £5 Is to £6 6s, light Jersey heifers £2 12s Gd to £3 10s, heavy fat cows £5 15s to £6 18s, medium £4 13s to £5 ss, light £3 15s to £4 10s, killable £3 3s to £3 Bs, heavy boners £2 5s to £3, light £1 5s to £2, good store cows £2 15s to £3. 12s 6d, heavy vealers £1 7s 6d to £2 ss, light £1 to £1 ss, small 10s to 17s. Pigs: Best-quality baconers £2 16s 18s, medium £2 12s to £2 15s, light £2 2s to £2 6s, medium £1 18s to £2 is, light £1 • 2s to £ 16s, large stores £1 5s 6d to £1 8s 6d, medium. £1 2s 6d to £1 ss, slips 18s to £1 Is 6d, weaners 10s Gd to 15s 6d. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, report on their weekly Frankton stock sale held on Tuesday as follows: —Cattle: The market for ox beef and for good cows was particularly brisk and there was a definite improvement on late recordings. Ox beef was in medium supply only, but there was a good large yarding of fat cows. The store and boner cow section was filled to capacity, and an exceedingly good sale was effected. Throughout prices were well maintained and generally were very pleasing to vendors, a complete clearance resulting. Vealer values remained on a par with late rates. We quote: Medium bullocks £8 10s to £9 9s, light fat bullocks to £8 7s 6d, heavy prime cows and heifers £6 5s to £B, medium quality cows and heifers £5 2s 6d to £6 2s 6d, light conditioned fat cows £4 10s to £5, light quality cows £3 5s to £4 ss, killable conditioned £2 15s to £3 ss, young store quality Jersey cows £2 2s 6d to £2 14s, plain stores 35s to £2, heavy boners £1 8s to £1 14s, others to £1 ss, medium runners £2 10s to £2 19s, good vealers to £2. Sheep: And especially heavy yarding consisted of a majority of medium class fat ewes, with the natural consequence of a noticeable decline in prices. Heavy wethers which were comparatively scarce made ruling rates, but medium wethers were also a shade lower. The hogget market Was firm, while lambs were keenly sought after. We quote: Heavy fat wethers £1 4s to £1 6s 3d, medium fat wethers £1 2s to £1 4s, light quality £1 Is 6d, heavy woolly ewes 18s to 19s 9d, heavy shorn ewes 16s to 17s 9d, medium quality do 14s to 15s 6d, inferior to 13s, heavy hoggets £1 2s to £1 6s, medium £1 2s to £1 4s, forward hoggets 19s to £1 Is, heavy lambs £1 3s to £1 6s 3d, medium do £1 Is to £1 3s. Pigs: There was a slightly firmer tone to the bidding for porkers and baconers and prices for these, if anything, improved slighly. The yarding again was a very heavy one. Stores and weaners were in normal supplies and in this section rates were stable at current quotations. We quote: Heavy baconers £2 10s to £2 19s, medium £2 3s to £2 10s, light £1 18s to £2 2s, heavy porkers £1 14s to £1 17s, medium £1 12s to £1 14s, light to £1 11s, large store pigs £1 5s to £1 7s 6d, medium £1 2s 6d to £1 4s 6d, slips 17s 6d to £l, smaller slips 13s to 17s, weaners up to 13s.

OTOROHANGA STOCK SALE. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Company, Limited, Hamilton, report on their Otorohanga stock sale held on "Wednesday as follows: —There was again practically an absence of heavy cows but medium conditioned beef cattle were in good supply. Jersey store and boner cows comprised the greater part of the yarding while

we sold also 40 potter bulls and a few pens of yearling heifers. The fat cattle were in good demand and prices Were well maintained at Frankton quotations. Light fat and store cows created particularly keen enquiry and a brisk sale resulted with values being right up to late levels. Potter bulls elicited brisk bidding, prices being beyond expectations. Yearling heifers sold satisfactorily while the demand for a few inferior dairies was slack. A good sized yarding of pigs which were almost all stores and weaners were in good demand and appreciated slightly in price above this week’s Frankton rates. We quote: Light fat cows £3 18s to £4 10s, killable quality cows. £2 16s to £3 10s, fresh young Jersey cows £2 2s to £2 10s, medium store Jersey cows £1 14s to £2, boners £1 11s, exti’a heavy potter bulls £8 to £9 12s 6d, good £6 to £B, ethers to £5 10s, good yearling heifers £2 10s to £3, medium dairy cowte £3 to £4 10s, light porkers £1 8s to £1 13s, large store pigs £1 3s to £1 Bs, good store pigs £1 Is to £1 3s, good slips 17s to 19s, others 13s to 16s, large weaners 12s.

MATAMATA STOCK SALE. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual fortnightly stock sale at Matamata on Wednesday, when there was a good yarding of all classes of stock. Fat cattle and bulls were keenly sought .after, but store cattle were dull of sale. Sheep: There was a medium yarding of sheep, which sold readily. Light fat woolly hoggets made 23s 6d to 245, prime fat woolly hoggets 28s to 31s, medium 25s to 26s 6d, woolly ewes 19s to 21s, small shorn woolly hoggets 20s 6d, medium quality ewes with lambs at foot 15s 3d all counted; shorn ewes with lambs at foot (poor condition) 11s 2d all counted. Cattle: Heavy fat cows £6 12s to £7 17s 6d, medium fat cows £4 12s Gd to £5 15s, medium fat Holstein heifers £4 2s 6(1 to £5 16s, fat Jersey heifers £3 to £4 2s 6d, heavy boner cows £2 8s to £2 17s, light and cull cows 28s to 37s 6d, Jersey cows with calves at foot £2 14s to £3 19s, 3 year dehorned Shorthorn steers £7 ss, heavy potter bulls £6 19s to £8 17s, medium potter bulls £4 to £5 10s, light bulls £3 to £3 15s, medium yearling Jersey heifers £2 7s, good springing Jersey heifers £3 15s to £5, second calvers sound £3 5s to £3 15s.

Pigs: There was a full yarding in both sections of pigs, and practically a total clearance was effected at equal to Frankton rates. Prime heavy baconers made £2 15s to £2 19s, medium £2 11s to £2 15s, light baconers and blitter milk pigs £2 4s to £2 10s, heavy porkers 39s to £3 2s, medium 35s to 38s, light and unfinished 32s to 365, choppers 32s to 395, best stores 32s Gd, good stores 24s to 30s, slips 18s to 25s 6d, best weaner 19 6d, good weaner 14s to 18s, small 10s 6d to 13s 6d, young Devon boars 30s, young Tamworth boars 30s sows in pig 30s to 395.
