RECORD SHIPMENT FROM BOTH ISLANDS VALUE EXCEEDS £BOOO Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. have just completed the selection and shipment to South America of a record shipment of stud sheep, comprising 159 head, 'and of a total value between £BOOO and £9OOO. This consignment is the most important that has left New Zealand for many years, and is a further indication of the extent of the trade developed in South America fur New Zealand bred sheep. A very important step was taken in connection with this trade in 1924, when Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. arranged for the exhibition of some of the most representative stock that could be selected from New Zealand’s leading breeders. These sheep were all exhibited at the International show held at Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina, in that year, and as they met with outstanding success, a great fillip was given to the export trade. The present consignment is to be delivered at three ports in South America, and is destined for no less than 14 different interests. The first port of call is Magallanes, Chili. A special charter has been necessary to enable the carrying steamer to enter the Strait of Magellan. The sheep that will be delivered there are destined for interests in Chili, Santa Cruz (Argentina), Tierro Del Fuego and the Falkland Islands. The sheep for the two latter inland territories are transferred to their destination by the regular steamers trading to those ports from Magallanes. The balance of the sheep will be discharged at Monte Video in Uruguay, to which country Lincolns, Romneys and Corriedales are being shipped. A number of the same breeds will be transferred from there to Buenos Aires and, in addition to' Central Argentina, will be transferred to Patagonia. It will thus be seen that the present shipment is destined to cover a very wide area in South America.
