TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The usual monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu District High School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, Mr G. B. Melrose (chairman) presiding. Also present were Messrs L. S. Armstrong, W. G. Adams, E. Menary, H. A. Reed, D. Clark, J. A. Maxwell, M. G. GalloAvay, and the secretary, Mr J. G. Wynyard. The headmaster, Mr A. J. Shepherd, was in attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mi* W. F. Woodlward. The pupils of the District High School invited members of the committee and their wives to attend a social reunion of past and present pupils in the school an Thursday evening of next week. —The invitation was gladly accepted. Acknowledgement of the Comjmittee’s thanks and congratulations uip--011 the success of her recent concert to aid the school funds was received from Mrs Gene Strong. The chairman’s action in purchasing a new lawn moAver for use on the school lawns was approved. On the subject of Dental Clinic levies, the headmaster reported that all parents in arrears had been .circularised, and some had since paid— It Avas decided to debar from further treatment all children for whom levies have not been paid. The treasurer presented a statement of the financial position with accounts totalling £4O to pay.—. Received, and accounts passed for payment. Mr Wynyard reported that the recent concert promoted by Mrs H. Steer and Mr H. A. Swarbrick, had resulted in a net profit of £2B 17s 9d, which was on behalf of the Dental Clinic Fund. Keen appreciation Avas expressed of the splendid entertainment, with special reference to the producer .and to Mr J. Sager for his valued help as stage manager, and Mr H. Foster (Huntly) for the loan of a stage curtain. The inspecting committee, Messrs Armstrong and Reed, reported having attended at the school, and they put forward several small matters for attention to the buildings and grounds. The headmaster reported that the roll number in the primary department is now 350, with an average attendance of 324, while in the secondary department the roll is 95, with an .average attendance of 87. .Mr Shepherd added that Mr A. F. Brewer, who has been second assistant in the secondary department for several years, is leaving at the end of tho year to take charge of tihe new secondary department at Kawakawa, and his position here will almost certainly be filled by a lady l assistant. Mir Shepherd paid a tribute to Mr Brewer as an excellent master and “ the life ana soul ” of the recreation Avork, especially football. He would be very much missed, but would take aAvay with him very hearty and sincere good Avishes from his fellow members on the staff and the pupils. Reporting on the standard 6 examinations, held this week, Mr Shepherd said the results had proved highly satisfactory. Results would be made knoAvn to the candidates on the last day of the term'. —The headmaster and* his staff were colngratulated upon the success again achieved. It was agreed to again assist Avith the annual Christmas Tree for the infant department. Mr Shepherd extended seasonable greetings to the Committee, and thanks for courtesies and co-operation throughout the year from himself and the staff, and this was heartily reciprocated. Arrangements Avere made for the annual school concert in the Town Hall on Tuesday, 18th inst., and. the Roraulgh Council is to be asked if it is possible to provide the needed additional seating accommodation at the hall for that occasion. The chairman and members exchanged seasonable greetings and all combined in paying a tribute to the Press.
