LETTERS FROM READERS. DAIRY REPORT CHALLENGE.

Sir, —i note by a recent issue that Mr A. J. Sinclair, in reply to Mr A. E. Robinson, states that he did not issue any challenge to debate the Dairy Commission report. My information on this point is to the contrary. The chairman of the Hinuera Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., stated at the last board meeting that Mr Sinclair had assured him over the telephone that he was prepared to debate, with any man in New Zealand, in favour of the affirmation that the recommendations of the Dairy Commission would be in the best interests of the industry, and I was specifically asked if I could arrange for someone to meet Mr Sinclair tc debate the question. This lias been done. It seems hardly likely that a mistake would have been made in regard to so important and definite a statement, and if a debate is arranged it will, if it is to be of any value, require to be on the affirmation as above stated, and not merely the financial relief aspect as narrowed down in Mr Sinclair’s items 1 and 2. A debate on general lines would be of considerable interest to all dairy farmers, as well as to the community whose welfare depends so much upon that of the farming population. —I am ,etc., PHIL, HAWKE. Hinuera.
