ROAD VEHICLES

PROPELLED BY COAL DERIVATIVES.

The Coal Utilisation Council organised on June 7 and 8 a demonstration of road vehicles propelled by some derivaties of British coal, in Palace Yard, Westministei’. Collaborating with the 'C.U.C. in this demonstration were the Sentinel Waggon Works, Ltd., who showed a silent, smlokeless, steam-driven lorry running on pneumatic tyres. The Gas Light and Coke Co. had a 30 cwt lorry which had run 20,000 miles on creosote without overhaul. The National Gas Council, with a lorry running on compressed gas, which had been lent by the Wandswoith Gas. Co.

The Chesterfield Tube Co. (the undertaking that manufactures the cylinders for the compressed gas) showed a municipal dust cart converted to run on compressed gas.

The Electric Vehicle Committee showed the latest types of electrically propelled vehicles. The Koela Producer Gas Plant Co. showed a pi’oducer gas driven vehicle.

Low Temperature Carbonisation, Ltd., had a lorry and also a private Bentley car driven on petrol produced from coal.

The Fuel .Research Board which supplied one of the vehicles in the demonstration petrol produced from coal.

From the above list it will be seen what a variety of home-produced motor fuels is nciw available both for the private and commercial use and what a vast potential market is opening for the utilisation of Bluish coal.
