LORRY OWNER FINED
In the Te Awamutu S.M. Court on Wednesday the Waikato County Council, through its traffic inspector, Mr ft, Metcalfe, prosecuted Thomas H. Welch, butcher, Te Awamutu, with overloading his motor lorry on the Great South Road on July 3rd. The inspector said the lorry was loaded with livestock, and driven by defendant’s son. As it did not display classification plates, he stopped the vehicle. The Vehicle had been issued with an A license, 2 h tons, but the actual load was 22 cwt overweight. T!he difference in the license fee was £5 2s annually. Counsel said the necessary license was obtained on the following day. He submitted that it was difficult to estimate the weight of a Iciad of livestock.
Inspector Metcalfe said the truck had been licensed as having bare weight of 21 cwt. This appeared to be a mistake, as it was fully 31 cwt.
A fine of £1 10s and costs 10s was imposed.
