IMPROVING KIHIKIHI
BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY’S ACTIVITY.
The president, Mr C. J. Murpliy, presided over a well represented meeting of the Kihilcihi Beautifying Society held at Mr Regan’s tearooms on Friday evening last. A letter was received from the Kihilcihi Town Board expressing its approval of all the society was endeavouring to accomplish, and assuring it of whole-hearted support. A letter was received from the chief postmaster, Hamilton, in reply to the society’s letter drawing attention to the unsightly fence at the post odice, Kihilcihi.
The Inspector of Police, Hamilton, also came under review for the unbusinesslike way of sending a verbal message to the society’s request for permission to plant shrubs or creepers on the barren looking bank below the historic site now owned by the Police Department. The lady members of the society expressed their willingness to arrange for a “community sing” to be held in the Town Hall at an early date. The gentlemen members are forming a working bee for Wednesday, 22nd inst., when it is hoped something will be done to improve the general appearance of the town. The chairman stated that he would see what could be done to improve the Rewi Maniapoto monument.
