At yesterday’s meeting of the Auck’iand Board of Education, Miss E. B. Leonard was appointed assistant mistress at the Roto-o-rangi school.
M'r J. H;. Luxford, formerly in practice at Te Awanrutu, whose term of office as Chief Judge, in Samoa’ has expired, will leave Apia hy the Mlaui Pornare next month. He has been appointed stipendiary magistrate for the Thames district of New Zealand in succession to Mr F. W. Platts.
The dearth occurred a few days ago of Mr John Tozer, an old resident of Pukekohe, at the age of 87 i years. Mr Tozer farmed a property at Ngaroto for a number of years about two decades ago, anl wjas hei'd ini high esteem by fellow settlers. Mrs Rogers and Mr E. Tozer, of Kio Kio, are members of the family.
A conference of officers of the Ist Ba'ifalion, Waikato Regiment, was held in Hamilton last evening, when the opportunity was taken to welcome LieutenanthColonel R. V. Closey, of Papatoetoe, who was recently appointed to command the regiment.
