FAILED TO PAY WAGES
PROSECUTION OF FARMER. By Telegraph. Press Association.) HAMILTON, Monday. There was no appearance of George Sanson, a Whatawhata farmer, in the Hamilton Police Court to-day, when he was charged with failing to pay an employee wages. Mr F. Wilson, an inspector of the Labour Department, said that defendant employed J. C. Wilson, a Flock House boy, for 11 weeks. He agreed to pay him £1 a week and keep, but paid him nothing. He contended, however, that he had supplied Watson with some goods. “An employer is bound to pay wages,' and he cannot set off goods supplied against wages,” said the magistrate, Mr S. L. Paterson, in imposing a fine of £1 and costs.
