CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS BALL. To augment Te Kawa” School’s quota for the Dental Clinic Fund a children’s fancy dres ball was held In the public hall on Thursday evening, and there was a very large assembly, the building being filled to the doors. The ch ldren were present in. a great variety of costumes, the whole makng a most spectacular and imposing spectacle. Every possible detail had oeen capably attended to to ensure the thorough enjoyment of the juveniles, while the adults also entered heartily into the merriment of the evening. Fancy costumes were not, of course, confined to the juniors, for quite a number of their elders capered and cavorted to splendid music, and while seeing to it that 'the children had a good time they also enjoyed themselves. - Following is a list of the costumes worn: —Mrs Knighton', magpie; Mrs Cunningham, gipsy; Miss Jefferson, shepherdess; Joyce Burton, lady of the Arabian hlarem; Miss ' Smythe, Ravvene; Miss Monk, gipsy princess; M'ss Phyllis McLean, Cinderella; Peggy Fowler, pirate; Nora Fowler, college boy; Joan Burton, Minnie Mouse; Ruth Henderson, drummer boy; Mrs Chestnut, grandma; Freda Hathaway, g psy; Mrs Turner, red, white and blue; Miss M. Westgate, red devil; Miss Culpan, Madam Pompa'our; Miss M. Brown, masquerader; Messrs Turner and Mexted Dean Det- f ton and George Walker; Jack Campbell, rajah; E. Campbell, jockey; Neil McLean, Highlander; Nitz,'Shah of Peresia; R. Witman clown; T. Thompson, Arabian sheik; Knighton, Highlander; Cunningham, cricketer; C. Wlatson bus driver; L. Cameron, Ned Kelly; R. Berry, Chinese mandarin. Others present included:—M’sses Jones, Tylee Compton, Harris, Clements, Watson, M.. Hathaway. Ryan, J. Thomson, Seuddar, K. Ryan, Mesdames Henderson Benton,. Greer, Scho’es, Monk, Lumsden, McLean, Smart, Jane, Ryan and George. During the evening a. spot waltz competition was held, and the winners were Mrs Tucker and Mr Meredith. A Monte Carlo comp eFt ion was. won by Miss Henderson and Mr G. Clarke.
