KING COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS. t LAST SATURDAY’S PLAY. FURTHER SUCCESSES FOR TE AiWAMUTU. The weather conditions continued ideal for the continuation of the King Country golf championships on the Te Awamutu Club’s links at the local racecourse on Saturday last, and some really attractive golf was witnessed. Some of the vis.ting players experienced a little difficulty in adapting themselves to playing conditions, and this undoubtedly gave Te Awamutu an advantage. As it turned out, le Awamutu won all competitions, except the junior medal, which wias annexed by Mr T. Levien, of Maihi.'hi Club. Quite a number of “incidents occurred during the tournament, not the least interesting being when C. Hotson, of Otorohanga, performed the rather unusual feature of holing out in one during the morning round. Needless to say, he wja,s heartily congratulated and “penalised” for the achievement. At the conclusion of play, the ie Awamutu Club president, Dr Blundell, presented the trophies, having a word of hearty congratulation not only for the winners, but also for others who had made the tournament such a success. Hn the responses, it (appeared that one winner recorded his first victory in a tournament —'and he was an old player too —and another modestly admitted great gratification, because his last win in a tournament was something like twenty years ago. The tournament was well; managed, and in addition to the links being rdade attractive to competitors, the club had arranged for a refreshment buffet, where tasty morning and afternoon tea, and even luncheon, was dispensed. |The players expressed keen appreciation of the arrangements made, and Roped that Te Awamutu Club would continue to prosper, and that when it came to Te Awamutu’s turn again to hold a King Country championship tourney that there would be just as pleasant circumstances. Dr Blundell mentioned that the tournament for next year would be held on the Waiimarino Club’s, links, and he hoped that all would join in making that function the success it deserved to be.
