WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Te Awamjutu branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Parish Hall on Friday, August 10th. After the opening song, the programme was proceeded with. Mrs E. White and Mrs T. Nicholson played two piano duets, Liszt’s Hungarian (Rhapsody No. 2, and Witche’s Dance (MacDowell). These were much appreciated. A play, a one-act comedy, “ Aunt Lizzie’s Friend,” was produced by Mrs E. White. The following members took part: Mesdames McCready, W. Locke, Shutte, Brooks, Moody, Brewer, E. White and Self. All parts were taken most efficiently and all members appreciated the large amount of hard work that each lady had put into her part. A competition for the best basket of vegetables, six varieties, was won by Mrs Findlay. A most interesting wall competition resulted in a win for Mrs Mathew. The Glee Club gave a very enjoyable item, “ The Bells of St. Mary,” the solo part being taken by Mrs McCready. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Raymond Jones, McArthur, HI- Andrew, Phillip, Findlay and Cruiekshank, brought a very happy afternoon to a close.
