OBITUARY

MR “NED” HARRIS. One of Kihikihi district’s best known and most-liked residents, Mr Edward G. Harris, passed away yesterday after a long- and pa nful illness, at the age of 69 years. “Ned,” as he was popularly ciaiHed, was born at Trentham,, near Wellington, and his early years were spent in the Wairarapa, where he engaged in farming, and among his many associates at that period was the Hon. A. D. McLeod, former Minister for Lands, and M.P. for Wialrarapa. Mr Harris came North about twenty years ago, settling at Khikihi, and engaged in work to do with the land: farming, farm managing, and stock droving, and his wide practical knowledge was universally realised. “Ned” was a veteran of the South African Wlar, and could fell .many a good story of the campaign. He married over thirty years ago, but h s wife died after bearing hflm, three children; and a second marriage, a few years ago, to a daughter of Mj’ and Mrs J. Beihler, of Te Awamutu, leaves two smlall children, one only a few months old. Mr Harris had been in failing health for about three years, and for the past ten or twelve months he had been poetically always bed-ridden, following a serious operation. The funeral takes to-morrow afternoon, interment being at the KihikihiCemetery.
