DENTAL CLINIC CONCERT

SCHOOL CHILDREN AS ENTERTAINERS.

Te Awamuitu District Dental Clinic Building Fund will not, it would seem, profit very materially as a result, of the school children's concert given in 'the Empire Theatre last Tuesday evening, for the attendance of the general public was very much below anticipations. The unusually stormy weather conditions prevailing effectively dampened the enthusiasm of scores of people who otherwise would have attended. However, those who did brave the elements and they came from a wide radius, too—thoroughly enjoyed the items, and were not backward in expressing that appreciation by loud and sustained applause. The Municipal Band was in attendance to assist, and that talented combination was heard to advantage in the marches " Up to Date " and " Knight of the Road," Bandmaster R. North conducting admirably. The children's part of the programme was as under: National Anthem, Te Awamutu girls; choral numbers, Te Awamutu scholars; Highland fling, Myrtle Forsyth, Ohaupo; illustrated song, " Strawberry Fair." Kihikihi scholars; song. "Kentucky Babe," Averill Brabiner, Te Mawhai; piano duet, J. Ferguson and A. Annibal, Te Awamutu Convent; song, Paterangi infants; comic dance, "The Golliwog," Joan Knighton, Te Kawa; Irish jig, Marjorie Forsyth, Ohaupo; action song, " Autumn Leaves," Te Awamutu infants; physical exercises, Te Awamutu boys; Maori song and chorus, Kihikihi scholars; recitation, "Flowers" (Kipling), J. Empson; sailor's hornpipe, Bruce Forsyth, Ohaupo; rounds, Te Awamutu scholars; song, "Love's Old, Sweet Song," A. Brabiner, Te Mawhai; poi dance, Pirongia girls' quartette; piano trio, Convent girls; Empire pageant, " Britannia' and the Flag," Kihikihi scholars; piano duet, A. Annibal and J. Ferguson, Convent. The entertainment was decidedly good, and we understand many requests have been made for a repeat performance, and if this eventuates it is to be hoped the conditions will be favourable, so that the Fund may benefit as intended.
