CENTENARY CONCERTS

TE AWAMUTU PARTY AT PATERANGI. Attendances at the second performance of Mrs Steer's concert party at the Paterangi Hall on Monday night was marred by the inclement weather, but those who attended were treated to an exceptionally fine performance. The experience of the first night at Te Kawa had enabled the management to make seme little re-arrangement of the programme which considerably increased its attractiveness. The stage was specially draped and decorated with coloured flowers and greenery on a background of dark green curtains, which, with the special lighting arranged by Mr Spence, produced a really beautiful effect. The stage was especially gorgeous in the Gipsy Scena, the brilliant costumes being heightened by coloured flood lights. The programme was the same as that presented at Te Kawa with_ a few additions and improvements, including a harmonised version cf the popular " Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes," sung by the whole company. As was to be expected, the ensemble numbers elicited the most applause, notably the Legionaire duo, the Italio de Lingo quartette, and the dance diio, " Lady of Spain." Mr Wialtei-.s, a tenor new to Te A.wamutu district, but an experienced and accomplished isinger, gave an exceptionally fine rendering of the Irish ballad " Macushla." Recalls were frequent, and the only criticism of the concert was that it wah all too short. A short but enjoyable dance ended the evening. Owing to the wet weather and counter attractions the concert arranged for Wednesday, at Pirongia, was postponed, and will be held on Saturday, 7th July.
