IN WIAIPA COUNTY

ENGINEER'S REPORT.

The following report of work carried out since last meeting was presented by the engineer (M'r J. W. Civil) at Monday's meeting of the County Council: — PUKEKURA RIDING.

Maungatautari Road.—'Portions of this road have been resurfaced with 380 cyds of gravel sand, 230 cyds from Waite's pit and 150 cyds from Perkin's pit. Turkington's Road.—64 cyds of gravel have been carted from Grey's pit and spread. Kairangi Road.—l 34 cyds of gravel sand have been carted from Peppercorn's pit and spread where required, and also 50 cyds carted on to Cam-bridge-Rotorangi road. Skeet's Road.—An 18ft. by 16ft. bridge has been erected. Pukekura Drainage.—Simith and party have the cleaning of drains in this area practically completed. RANG.IAOHIA RIDING. Great South Road Main Highway (Hamilton to Te Awamutu).—93 cyds of Te Kawa -metal have been supplied, carted and spread and grading carried out by motor grader. Bond's Road.—34 cyds of Otcrohanga gravel have been supplied, cairfed and repairs carried out. Peake's Road.—3o cyds of Te Kawa metal have been supplied and repairs carried out. 46 cyds of Te Kawa metal have been supplied and carted, 27i on to Te Rahu Road and 18J on to Te Awamutu-Cambridge main highway. Puahue Quarry.—Men at Puahue quarry are breaking metal for Puahue district, and 30 cubic yards of metal have been carted and spread on Cooper's Road. Grading and general surfacework has been carried out on other roads in the riding. ORAKAU RIDING.

Great South Road Main Highway (Te Awamutu to County Boundary). —177 cydjs cf Puniu River gravel have been carted from dump and repairs carried out, and also grading. Kihlkihi Flat Road.—4ll cyds of Otorohanga shingle have been supplied, carted and repairs to metal carried out.

Kihikihi-Arapuni Main Highway.— 30 cyds of Puniu River gravel have been carted from dump and repairs and other surfacework carried out.

Mangare Road.: —From the end of the gravelled road to Woodward and McGechie's gate entrance, an approximate distance of 15 chains, has been sanded with sand from McGechie's property. The council provided truck and spreader;, and Meissrs Woodward and McGechie three shovellers for loading. MANGAPIKO RIDING. Prankton-Pirongia Main Highway. —96 cyds of Hodgson's gravel have been carted from dumps and repairs carried cut.

Ohaupo - Paterangi Road (main road). —104 cyds of Te Kawa metal have been supplied to Ohaupo, carted and repairs carried out. Frontier Road. —133 cyds cf gravel sand from the railway pit have been canted and resurfacing carried out. Fifty-two cyds of isand have been canted from Burrough's pit on to Lake Road, 52 cyds from Steel's on to Pi-rongia-Paterangi road and 66 cyds from Bowtinan's pit on to Sing's Road. Grading and surfacework has been carried out by Surfaceman Curtis on various other roads in the riding. KAKEPUKU RIDING. Te Awamutu-Burton's Corner, Main Highway.—.l4o cyds of Waipa River glnavel have been carted from dumps and repairs carried out. Kakepuku Mountain Road. Te Awamutu unemployed have been excavating and stacking gravel at Coverdale's ready for carting. GENERAL. As arranged at the annual meeting, councillors had a two-day tour, inspecting roads in the Newcastle, Hamilton, Rukuhia, Tuhikaramea, Orakau and Kakepuku ridings, covering a distance of 270 miles, leaving the Kaipaki, Pukekura, Rangiaohia, and Mangapiko ridings still to be inspected.
