BIRDS’ PARADISE

ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND. The Foreign Bird Farm at Keston, on the borders of Kent, is the only one of its kind in the worl4. Here, 12 miles from London, ten thousand tropical birds lead an ideal * existence. Out in the open when weather permits, with the shelter of' vast aviaries, these gorgeous creatures mate and lay and brood, whereas in many cases they are becoming extinct in the tropics. A large number of the birds are rare parakeets. Our “guest,” one of the few living specimens of a species found in Central Australia, belongs to the ICing. The distinction of organising the farm stands to the credit of Messrs Boosey and Brooksband. The spectacle of hundreds of gorgeously-col-oured parakeets, moving tp find fro in the sunshine, is only comparable with the scene in the tropical forests which is these birds’ native haunt. The tiny lovebirds, snuggling closely in rows on the slenderest twigs are no less attractive. The most magnificent scarlet and crimson ever seen is displayed in the feathers of the lories.
