One thing it is well to remember is that while Australia may have a larger volume of trade New Zealand’s position as a customer of Great Britain is even better than that of the Commonwealth and entitles her to just as much consideration. The value of British goods per head of population during the past four years puts the New Zealander on a higher plane. The statistical years do not quite coincide but that does not vitiate the comparison. Individually the New Zealander was more than twice as valuable to Britain as a customer than the Australian and it should be noted that the percentage of British goods in the total imports is larger in New Zealand.—Southland Times.
