Made up fire underwriters’ returns fo:- month of Api’il 1934. ENGINEER’S REPORT. Poles.—Thirty-one poles were carted and twenty-five were erected -of which nine were used for maintenance and sixteen for construction. - Lines.—An 11 k.v. air break switch was evicted to control the Cooper’s swamp section at Puahue. Two 3 k.v. air break switches were changed to replace faulty ones. One hundred and thirty-three chains of wire were erected to supply new consumers. Maintenance work has been carried out on the line poles at Hairini. Puahue, Te Kawa, Kio Kio, Te Mawhai and Te Rore. On the 3rd inst. a severe gale was experienced; but no damage was done to the lines} excenting two binders breaking on the No. 1 T ine. This necessitated shirts ting down the No. 1 and No. 3 11 k.v. lines to replace the binders* Fourinsulators are forwarded to you that were found damaged by rifles or stones. These were on the Te KawaParr.wera 11 k.v. section. On the 10th inst. a small bird contacted and damaged the A.B.S. at Te Kawa crossroads and brought down the line, the latter being caused by the P.W.D. earth leakage relays failing to operate. At the same time, this fault caused some damage to be done to. the P.W.D. current transformers -at* their substation which necessitated, cutting off No. 1 (South) and No. 2'' (Patei angi-Kaipaki) lines to make the necessary repairs. Patrols of 3 k.v. lines were carried out on the fo lowing circuits: From Kio Kio Road junction to Ngahape and Korakonui Kaipaki .Te Mawhai (not completed) and Te Rore (not completed). Advantage was taken of the P.WjD. shut-down last Sunday afternoon to patrol a portion of the Borough 3 k.v. lines. In the past, considerable Hifnculty has been experienced in arranging shut downs to overhaul lines so as not to inconvenience consumers, on account of the number of elbctfic ranges, pumps, water heaters and bther appliances in use. It must be realised that 100 per cent service cannot be given unless we are allowed ’die time to overhaul, the lines. Now the present milking season is ending, I would state it will be necessary to shut off power in different sections of lines in rotation between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., to permit this wo’k being done. Substations. —Routine work was carried out at Parawera. Te Kawa, Pukeatua and Tokanui substations. Transformers:I—Forty 1 —Forty gallons of oil were dehydrated. • Static Condensers. —One static con- ■ denser was repaired. Owing to the ' increase in motor load, the time is rapidly approaching when it wi 1 be necessary to consider the purchasing cf more condensers. Power Supply.—The peak load to d2te for present quarter is 1219 lc.v.a. at .897 p.f. Stieet Lighting;—One lamp was char ged at Ohaupo. two at Pirongia and four at Post Office clock. Community Lighting.—Fifty-four lamps were changed on the various circuits. One consumer, whose com-„ munity light was dismantled for al-' terations to building, has signed a fresh agreement. The installing of lliis light is held up pending fur- ‘ ther lights in adjoining shop. Service Lines.—Ten sendee lines were erected and a number were overhauled or altered. Six services were disconnected and three reconnected. Trees Adjacent to Lines.—Trees that are growing into lines were trimmed. Transport.—The vehicles 5230 miles during the period. General. —Further tests were made v with an interference locator. To date five sets have been tided out and as there is no possibility of arrangingtests cn any othei’s I can onlv recommend the acceptance of Mr J. Nobes r tender at £3B, subject to suitable apparatus being supplied to eliminate interference from the motor car in which it is used.
