PROBATION AND GAOL
TWO MEN DEALT WITH.
(By Telegraph. Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
A charge of breaking and entering a Te Kuiti shop was admitted by Roy George Glenie and Alexander John Mathieson Smith, who appeared at the Supreme Court yesterday for sentence. Glenie was also charged with the theft of a camera. For Smith, Mr Noble asked that probation should be allowed the prisoner, who had not been convicted previously. His Honor admitted Smith to probation for two years. ' He commented that the prisoner appeared to have kept doubtful company. During the term of his probation he was not to enter billiards rooms or hotels, or go on to racecourses. He must attend only amusements approved by the probation officer. His Honor further ordered Smith to pay half the amount of restitution and half the cost of the prosecution. Glenie, who was stated to have a bad record, was sentenced to three months' hard labour for stealing the camera, and reformative detention for a period not exceeding two years on the other charge, the terms to be concurrent.
