THE FLORAL FETE

BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY'S EFFORT. VERY MANY ATTRACTIONS. Past experience encourages the expectation that the monster floral fete to be held in Te Awamutu on Saturday of next week will be a success. It is being organised to supplement the funds of the Te Awamutu Society, an organisation that already has done a lot of good in the town and neighbourhood at very little expense—because it has a remarkably enthusiastic executive that has achieved results by practical work rather than appeals to the public or local bodies for funds. However, the work entails some expense, and the floral fete is considered the most practicable way of raising the needed money, while at the same time directing more pointed attention to the good work that is being done. A comprehensive programme has been arranged, and if only the weather conditions are favourable on the day a very pleasant afternoon's entertainment is sure to be provided. A grand procession of decorated vehicles will pass along Alexandra Street bound for Victoria Park, where "all the fun of the fair" will be in full swing for the rest of the afternoon. There will be competitions for those taking part in the procession, such as most original exhibit, best doll's pram, bicycle, motor car, tricycle, fancy costume, school pony, decorated hoop, etc., and if the public enter into the carnival spirit as anticipated the respective judges will have a stiff task ahead of them in making the awards. Then there will be a fish pond for children, a baby show, and a sideshow—the latter conducted by members of the Returned Soldiers' Association. If our readers will remember last year's effort by the R.S.A., they will realise that next Saturday's contribution by the same organisation will be entertaining, to say the least of it. There will also be a "mystery" couple parading the Park waiting to be identified.

A well selected programme of sports events will be decided, including novelty items, such as chain stepping, nail driving, egg and spoon races, and a whistling race—all calculated to provide keen contests and entertainment.

A specially attractive department of the fete will be a flower show, conducted by the Horticultural Society, which has always loyally co-operated with the Beautifying Society. Roses, sweet peas and cut flowers will be staged in great array, so that flower lovers will have much to interest them.

Of course, there will be plenty of stalls for the sale of comestibles such as strawberries and cream, soft drinks, sweets, etc., and even produce, while an added attraction will be the presence throughout the afternoon of the Te Awamutu Municipal Band, which will render a specially selected programme of items.

Permission has been granted by the Domain Board to make a charge for admission to the Park, and adults will be charged Is and children 6d, so that the admission money should not prevent people attending to help along a worthy purpose.
