“ My own opinion is that starlings and mynas are the best means of combating the grass grub. Take my advice and encotfrage these birds; don’t let boys and irresponsible men traipse over your paddocks needlessly; they will disturb the birds at a very useful task.” Thus a district settler when asked his views of the grass-grub menace. He added that the grubs, did very little damage on heavy land, but they were present in great numbers in some paddocks of light country. ' When asked if he had noticed that the grub abandoned a paddock after,.a year or two, he said that that was his observation, adding: “ I guess they have eaten out alFthe available plant food, hnd hav.e to move on or starve.”
