RELIEF ALLOCATION

WORKERS FEAR REDUCTION. APPEAL FOR CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLNGTON, Friday. Fearing a cut of half a day a week in the allocation of work for Wellington relief workers, as has been made in the other districts, a meeting of delegates of the relief workers’ section of the Labour Movement last evening decided to call a conference of the church,'commercial, and business interests. The object will be to discuss the plight of the unemployed and to press for some better provision than that which exislcs under the schemes brought forward by the board. “ The Relief Workers’ Section is also taking up the matter of evictions,” reports a statement handed to the Press issued after the meeting. “ The position is becoming intolerable, and unless some effort is made it is felt that a complete breakdown in the power of resistence of the unemployed is inevitable. The conference will be the only way to show the true position as regards the treatment meted oult under the ration system existing to-day. The therefore hopes that all concerned will come together in an effort to assist. It is intended to ask the various interests to discuss the position and place the matter before the Minister and the Unemployment Board.” It was also reported that the Relief Workers’ Section now had branches established in Wanganui, Eastbourne, Masterton and Carterton.
