WOMEN'S DIVISION
TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. The July meeting of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon. The president, Mrs P. I. B. Ryburn, presided over a very large attendance of members. Correspondence was read by the president who then proposed a vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Miss Bowman, of Paterangi, members standing in silence. A very interesting and instructive demonstration was given by Mrs Jenkins, of Pukeatua, on making hearth rugs from sugar-bags and moccas'ns from felt and specially-cured rabbitskins. Keen interest was shown in all the methods explained. Mrs C. G. Downes, Mayoress of Te Awarnutu, was welcomed, and spoke to those present, asking for the sympathy and co-operation of the Women's Division with the Women's Institute for assisting in the relief of unemployment and necessitous cases, necessitous case 3 due to unemployment, should the need arise at any time. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies of Kihikihi and Te Mawhai, and this concluded a very enjoyable afternoon.
