Mr and Mrs A. C. D. Collins, Miss Jean Collins, Mrs R. H. George, and Mrs Austin Bewley paid a short vis it to Mr and Mrs H. Y. Collins, Otawhao, on the return to New Plymouth, from Auckland, where they spent the week-end with their mother, Mrs A. E. Devore, on the anniversary of her 80th birthday.

Mr and Mrs S. Clark and Miss Mavis Clark are spending the weekend in Auckland.

Mrs J. Hunter, of Otahuhu, is spending a short holiday in Te Awamutu as the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Andrew, Snr., Bank Street, and returns home on Monday.

Miss B. Wilkie, of Te Puke, who has been the of Miss Avis Rickit, leaves to-day on her return home.

Mr Chas. Foster, of Okauia, Matamata district, was a visitor to Te Awamutu during the week. Mr. and Mrs J. Webster, of Ngaruawahia, have returned home after spending a few days with Mrs E. Findsen.

Miss Nellie Stuart has returned to Te Awamutu, after undergoing an operation in Waikato Hospital.

Information received this morning was to the effect that Dr K. N. .Hiskens, of Te Awamutu, who underwent an operation in an Auckland private hospital a few days ago, has made good progress and expects to return, home during tlw week-end.

His many friends will be pleased to learn that Mr L. G. Harden is making satisfactory progress toward recovery from a bout of pleurisy, and he expects to be about again in a week or so.

Local Rugby football enthusiasts, and particularly those associated with the juniors will learn with some regret that Mr Win Shepherd, who has captained the junior representative team this season, leaves on Monday to take up an appointment in the .Taupiri district as herd-testing officer with the New Zealand Co-operative Herdtesting Association. Recently Mr Shepherd went to Massey College for special instruction, and secured a firstclass pass; in fact, we understand he topped the list, with the result that the Testing Association gave him the appointment at Taupiri. His many friends will wish frm further success, even though he will not be available a-s a Waipa representative footballer.

The time-honoured custom of " gathering round the stone" was perpetuated at the office of the Waipa Post this morning, when the staff assembled to make a presentation to Mr iN. J. Rusden a member of the linotype staff, who recently joined the ranks of the Benedicts. The manager Mr A G Warburton, in asking Mr Rusden to accept a beautiful oak tea waggon, wished him and his bride long life and happiness, and he remarked that the ceremony was unique in that it was the first time in the 21 years' life of the Waipa Post that a member of the staff had had honeymoon leave.
