TE RORE NOTES

CHILDREN ENTERTAINED. (Own Correspondent.) The Social Club was responsible for a very enjoyable evening last Friday, when the children of the district had a night out, and arrived at the in fancy dress, where they amused themselves by playing games and marching, under the guidance of their teacher, Miss E. Rosser, until supper time, after which the adults indulged in dancing for the remainder of the evening. The proceedings opened with the Grand March, in which tiny tots ranging from two years and upwards took part, resembling miniature men and women, quaint in their ways and dress.; but with the natural easy grace of childhood which all too soon vanishes and can never again be successfully assumed in after years. An onlooker more aptly described them as looking like little fairies. Thirty-eight children were present, several families being represented by four, all in fancy dress, so that one can imagine the trouble some of the mothers went'to, as most of the dresses and costumes were made by them. The music was provided, by Mrs Rothwell,, Miss L. Allcock and the Messrs Holister.

Mr Coxhead, chairman of the Social Committee, thanked the visitors and those present for helping to make the evening a success, and also the judges. Mrs S. C. Macky (Paterangi) and Mrs W. H. Bell (Pirongia), for the earful and capable manner in which they had carried out their duties The chairman of the school committee, Mr Finn, in responding, thanked the social committee for the good work they had done, stating that probably there had been no other occasion in the history of Te Rore of a similar nature. He also wished to thank Miss Rosser. who had so ably assisted with the children. Those successful in the dress competition were:—Girls: Ivy Sifieet, Puritan: Nancy Wilson, Crinoline; June Wilson, most original. Boys: Manakin Finn, most outstanding; Stan Lorimer, most original; J. Garret, comic. Ladies: Mrs Rothwell, Eastern Princess. Gentlemen: H. Allcock, sheik. A special prize was awarded by the judges to W- McKinnon for his impersonation of a parson.
