Unwarranted Government interference with the policy of savings banks and building and investment societies is alleged in connection with the recently gazetted regulations providing for a maximum interest payable on deposits. The action of the Government is strongly resented by Mr H. ih Vaile, the chairman of the board of trustees of the Auckland Savings Bank, who states that the legislation was not sought by those whomi it presumably benefits.
