MINERS STILL IDLE
MEN MEET IN HUNTLY. (By Telegraph. Press Association) AUCKLAND, this day. Hopes that something might arise out of the miners' meetings, at Huntly yesterday that would pave the way for a resumption of negotiations in the coalmine deadlock were unfulfilled. Largely-attended meetings were held at Huntly. Rotowaro and Renown, but in each case the miners' leaders reported that no reply had been received from the coal mine owners in response to the request for the unconditional reopening of the conference. "The meetings were held solely with the object of enabling the district council to report progress," said Mr W. Davidson, secretary of the Northern Miners' Union, "and no resolutions affecting the position were passed. The feeling at the meetings only goes to show that the miners are absolutely determined to stand firm on the point originally laid down, that the conference must not be conditional on acceptance of one particular clause but must be free to discuss all the points at issue."
