FARMERS AND LABOUR
EXPLANATION OF REMARK. (By Telegraph. Press Association.^ HAMILTON, Monday. A statement that he was responsible for the reference made at the Auckland provincial conference of the Farmers' Union that Labour were the "natural allies" of the union was made by Mr W. Cummiing, of Taupiri, at a meeting of the Waikato provincial executive of the union. Mr Cumming said the discussion at the Auckland conference had been dragging on wearily for an hour and he was getting rather tired and at a loss 'of words. He had mentioned civil servants and other organisations with which he thought the union should get in touch and had just mentioned Labour when he was at a loss for a Someone in front prompted with the use otf the word " allies " and he used that word, never dreaming that it would be seized on and that his remarks would be misinterpreted. Therefore, by innocently using the term, " natural allies" he had been responsible for all the misunderstanding and he sincerely regretted it. Mr CumSniing complained that he had been misunderstood.
