PIG MARKETING
RE-ORGANISATION OF N.Z. COMPANY. ENTHUSIASTIC SUPPORT.
The extraordinary general meeting of the N.Z. Co-op. Pig-Marketing Association Ltd., was held in Hamilton on Thursday, to consider reconstruction proposals designed to strengthen the company. The meeting was fully representative, delegates being p'resent from most centres in the Waikato and also from the Whangarei and Waiuku districts. The reconstruction proposals were carried unanimously.
The chairman of directors i'Mr W. A. Phillips) explained the reasons held by the board of directors for asking the shareholders to approve of a scheme of reconstruction. The directors had given a good deal of thought to the scheme and they were confident that the one submitted for approval would, if carried into effect, be the means of firmly establishing the company and allow for progress. The secretary of the company (Mr G. F. Saunders) outlined the arrangement and explained the suggested new basis of shareholding. Many questions were asked by the shareholders and satisfactorily answered. ,Speaking after the resolutions had been disposed of, Mr Leeson (Morrinsville) said he would like to congratulate the chairman,, the directors and the organiser ofi the splendid work they had bone. It was magnificent. They had secured just on 20,000 pigs, ?ud tli’s In onlv a season. In these difficult times it was extraordinary. With the spirit of loyalty the farmers of the district had shown, he was confident that eventually they could be absolutely successful. When he looked back at the difficulties encountered in establishing co-operative manufacture of butter and cheese, their difficulties in establishing co-operative marketing of pigs were small in comparison. He was most hopeful as to the future. Mr Phillips, in replying, said he hoped that by their actions in the future they would merit renewed confidence of suppliers. He was glad to hear reference to the splendid work of the organiser, Mr Hastings, for it was largely due to the ability of that officer that they had made such good progress, but nevertheless it was really the farmers themselves who had enabled the progress to be made,, by their ready response. Another meeting will be held in a , fortnight to confirm the reconstruction resolutions approved by this meeting.
