DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK

The number of children from the Melville school district admitted to the Waikato Hospital as diphtheria contacts was increased to-day, making the total number of diphtheria cases in the hospital 35- 28 of which are from Melville. The acting medical superintendent, D.*.- R. S. A. Graham, stated to-day chat the condition of none of the patients was serious. Many of them were not ill, but were being kept’in hospital in order to check the spread of the disease. The average length of stay would be a week. Dr Graham said the epidemfic was seriously taxing the accommodation of the Hospital and was imposing a heavy additional task on the staff.
