PUKEATUA NOTES

HALL RENOVATION FUND. (Own Correspondent.) In spite of the cold and miserable weather at Pukeatua on Wednesday evening last a large crowd of neighbours and friends assembled at the residence of Dlrs Alex Ferguson for a party arranged to assist the Hall Renovation Fund. Once inside the house, the weather was completely forgotten in the light and warmtn provided for the comfort of the guests. Dlrs Ferguson, her family and lady friends who assisted her with the amusements and supper, had provided a very interesting programme of entertainment. A nice cosy room was given over to thecard enthusiasts, who made good use of the tables. The large dining room made a fine dance hall. A treasure hunt had been planned, but owing to the unfavourable weather it had to be abandoned, and instead a lucky dip was arranged. Miss Weatherell. Dliss Crowley and Dlessrs Ha'liday. Schulze, Hudson and Williamson" were the lucky prize-winners. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Dliss Ferguson and Dir "Williamson. Dlrs Weatherell presented a very beautifully iced cake for competition, and the eventful winner was Dir Clapham. Dir Hudson proved himself the best hand at putting the tail on a nig. There was very keen competition in the peanut race an d Dir Jenkins proved the steadiest hand. A clever menu competition was won by Mr G. Denton. Miss Edmonds won the bolster cushion presented by Dlrs Jernmett. A set of charades was a novel and amusing diversion. Miss Crowley and Dlessrs Williamson and Schulze each guessing four correct words out of eight. Thirty-three of the guests were anxious to know what was to be their future, so they visited Gypsy Romanilla in her secret chamber. She must have told some wonderful stories there, if the faces of the victims were any indication. The music_ for the dancing was provided by various ladies and gentlemen of the company, and Dir Clapham acted as master or ceremonies. This function adds another to our already long list of parties so kindlv provided by the ladies of the district to afford amusement and swell the fund for the renovation of the Public Hall here.
