DAYLIGHT ROBBERY

THIEVES SEIZE £l2O. ESCAPE IN A MOTOR-CAR. AUCKLAND,, this day. A sensational robbery occurred in the city shortly before noon yesterday, when £l2O was stolen from Mr R. Dias, an accountant employed by W. Parkinson and Company, Limited; of Victoria Street West, by three men who assaulted him near the cor* ner of Victoria Street and Hobson Street. The money was part of the weekly pay-roll of £l5O drawn by Mr Dias from the Commercial Bank of Australia, Queen Street, a few minutes before the theft took place. The assailants escaped in a threeseater motor-car, and no arrests had been made at a late hour last night,, although the vehicle was found abandoned in Grey Lynn yesterday afternoon. All the available members of the detective force were assigned to following up the various clues obtained which might lead to the detection of the robbers.

The attack was carried out quickly r and witnesses of the crime had no time to interfere. On his return from the bank, Mr Dias was walking on the northern footpath of Victoria Street,, within 50yds. of his office, when he was struck by one of the three men. The men were grouped near the entrance of a shop, the door of which was closed. One was standing on the kerb, another in the centre of the footpath and the third against a shop window.
