A CARNEGIE GIFT
DONATION TO N.Z. INSTITUTE. From the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the New Zealand Institute has received a draft off 1000 dollars toward publication expenses, it was announced at the annual meeting of the Board of Governors on Thursday. Toward the end of last year, Professor Coffman, of Michigan University, visited New Zealand as representative of the corporation, which accorded very generous treatment to the university libraries and to certain educational activities. While he was in Ne>w Zealand he was interviewed by the president, Professor H. W. Segar, and the vice-president, Mr B. C: Aston, on behalf of the institute's library. On that occasion he asked that he might have a comprehensive statement regarding the institute to place before the Carnegie Corporation, and this was forwarded, together with specimen volumes of the transactions. Professor Segar said that the donation would amount to something like £260. A resolution expressing thanks to the Carnegie Corporation and appreciation of its gift was carried.
