LOCAL UNEMPLOYED

NEW ASSOCIATION FORMED. MUTUAL HELP THE OBJECTIVE. A meeting of relief workers employed in the Te Awamutu district was held in the Oddfe.lows' Hall on Thursday evening. Mr A. Allen occupied the chair, and after an interesting discussion it was decided that the relief workers form an association to be known as the Te Awamutu Relief Workers' Association. The following officers were elected: —Chairman, A. Allen; secretary, R. Blair; committee, Messrs T. Campbell, J. Bishop and T. Harrison. It was resolved that at a later general meeting the committee be added to. The men want it to be made quite plain that their object in bandingtogether is not to protest or demonstrate against oresent conditions, but to create a feeling of goodfeliowship between the workers themselves, and to try and help each other " face the sunshine," so that the long shadows of the winter months will fall behind them. It was decided that the committee confer with his Worship the Mayor, and the local unemployment committee with the view of taking definite steps to establish a relief depot, under the control of the Relief Workers Association, where gifts of boots and clothing, or anything that would be helpful in tiding deserving cases over the present winter, would be distributed by a sympathetic and understanding committee. A general meeting will be called and duly advertised for a later date, when the committee will report progress and subjects of interest to the relief workers will be discussed, and where it. is hoped that suggestions of real help to the men will be put to the meeting for its approval.
