GAME OF “TWO UP”
ALLEGATION AT WANGANUI. (Bv Telegraph. Press Association.) WANGANUI, Monday. As far as “.two-up ” schools are concerned very few have been known to exist in Wanganui since the famous raid at Castlecliff about 13 years ago when Detective Hollis (now Inspector Hollis, of Auckland) and ConstaFfo Wainhouse (since retired) by night constructed a dugout on the fringe of a “ two-up ” playing area and photographed the players. Senior Sergeant McLean, Sergeant Dunsford and Detective Murray were therefore surprised the other day to receive information that “ two-up was being played on the £jver bank every Saturday afternool iwithin a few hundred yards of the police station. The police, it is alleged, walked right up to the “ school ” before being seen, but it is stated to have been a very hard-up affair with only 2s in the ring and players backing in threepences. The whole outfit could not muster up more than £1 in silver. It is understood that charges are to be heard in Court to-morrow.
