HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES
TE AWAMUTU’S POSITION. The fact that Te Awamutu borough does not share in the pooling scheme for motor traffic control was referred to at Monday’s meeting of the Waipa County Council. Members considered that Te Awamutu was getting an undue advantage over other local bodies, as one of the group’s inspectors resides in Te Awamutu and regularly and effectively patrols the main roads leading into Te Awamutu. One councillor mentioned that Te Awamutu Borough Council stayed out of the pool system, and employed its own inspector. Cr Mackv thought Te Awamutu would be rendering better service by co-operating. Cr Livingstone said it seemed that Te Awamutu was seeking, and getting, “ something for nothing.” It is only a small borough, and located inside the territory covered by the officers of the group. After some further comment the chairman was deputed to confer with the Mayor in the hope that the borough can be induced to join the group.
